 North Practice Schedule - Update 2 June 2009

update on our current schedule and review of plans

Boys born in 1990 and '91 (u-19s)

Boys born in 1992 and '93 (u-17s)

1.  What are we doing?---We are leaving Friday the 19th of June, probably in the late morning to early afternoon, to play in the Challenge Cup on Saturday and Sunday the 20th and the 21st.   We return on the 21st in the evening, I assume. The Challenge Cup is a Tournament for All Star Teams from around the US.  Selectors from the US national side (the Eagles) will be there selecting players from the various age grades for the Eagles.  This is a big deal, for us and our players.  It is a tournament, so we will play more than one game.  We are taking two teams, U 17 and U 19, 25 players on each squad.  The Brochure is attached. Challenge Cup Brochure (pdf)

2.  Costs--The costs for the boys are primarily covered.  Transportation (still looking for drivers and minders), entry fees, hotel, two breakfasts and one dinner, Jerseys, etc.  What is not currently covered is shorts and socks (navy blue for both), one dinner and two lunches.  If you already have socks and shorts in those colors--you don't need new ones.  We are trying to raise money--and perhaps some of these things will be covered.  The hotel we are staying in is the
Comfort Inn
699 Rodi Rd,
Monroeville, PA
about 12 m from the pitch.   The rate is $79.99 per night / free buffet breakfast if you say you are with Rugby Virginia.

3.  Remaining schedule--

Saturday June 6th, 10:30 am at South County High School (8501 Silverbrook Road   Lorton, Virginia 22079) there is a teaching scrimmage against some of the best mens players in the area.  This is a very controlled scrimmage where the boys will get to learn the game first hand from great players in a game situation.  All players not playing in the championship game should be there.  We will be done by 12:30.

4.   Saturday June 13th Selection trials.  11-4 at the Richmond Lions field in Richmond Virginia.  This is the address of the Pitch

Seven Pines Field 514 Whiteside Road
Sandston, VA 23150.

This is the final practice/trial before the coaches make selections.  There will be positional training, drills and evaluations, followed by a series of mini-scrimmages with teams put together by the coaches.  Following this, the coaches will make selections for the RV All Star Pool, and then the 25 players in each age bracket selected for the tournament.  We will announce those names on the RV website.

5.  On June 17th and 18th we will hold practices at 5:00 PM at TC Williams High School in Alexandria.  We expect all selected players to attend those practices.  Players from the Peninsula can/will be hosted by North players, coaches, and families.   On the 19th we will leave for Pittsburgh in the late morning or early afternoon.

To recap:-

  • June 17th and 18th practices before the Tournament;
  • June 19th leave for Pittsburgh;
  • June 20th and 21st is the Tournament in Pittsburgh.
