Virginia State High School Rugby Championship - Press Release

Fairfax, VA (June 1, 2008) – Rugby Virginia is pleased to announce that the First Virginia State High School Rugby Championship will be contested on June 7, 2008 at South County Secondary School Stadium (www.fcps.edu/southcountyss/index3.html ), Lorton, Fairfax County, Virginia.

"After an exciting inaugural regular season, the play offs have produced games of high intensity and quality. We look forward to showcasing Rugby Virginia high school rugby at the 1st State Championship." said Rugby Virginia’s Executive Director, Frederic Bardot. "We hope to make this event memorable for players and fans alike."

The Virginia State High School Rugby Championship will include a girl’s jamboree, boy’s Plate Final between TC Williams of Alexandria and the Fairfax Police Youth Club; the Championship consolation game between the Western Loudoun Wolverines and Springfield Youth / West End , and the State Final between NOVA u-19 and Western Suburbs Rugby.

Event Schedule:

11:30 AM – Girl’s Jamboree

12:45 PM: Plate Final – TC Williams v Fairfax Police Youth Club

2: 00 PM: Consolation Game -- Western Loudoun v SYC West End

3:30 PM: State Final – NOVA U-19 v Western Suburbs U-19

The doors will open at 11:00 AM. Tickets are available at the stadium: $ 4 per adult, and $ 1 per child under 18.

Virginia National Guard an Official Partner of Rugby Virginia

Fairfax, VA. (February 27, 2008) –Rugby Virginia and the Virginia National Guard announced today that they have reached an agreement that will make the Virginia National Guard an Official Partner of Rugby Virginia. This partnership includes sponsorship of Rugby Virginia’s existing boys and girls clubs as well as sponsoring the High School boys and girls State Championships taking place June 7, 2008.

"The Virginia National Guard is looking forward to partnering with Rugby Virginia," said SFC Trent Baker, NCO of the Virginia National Guard Marketing Branch. "This initiative will increase awareness of the Virginia National Guard among young athletes. Our beliefs in training, teamwork, courage, camaraderie and honor are principles the Army National Guard shares with Rugby Virginia. These shared values are a big part of the reason both organizations will benefit from our partnership."

In addition to Championship sponsoring, another added benefit of this new partnership provides apparel and equipment to all existing high school clubs in Virginia.

"This is great news for high school rugby in Virginia," Rugby Virginia Director Frederic Bardot said. "Boys and girls clubs will benefit from this partnership. The Virginia National Guard’s culture of leadership, teamwork, and service of others represent values espoused by rugby. Our partnership with the National Guard will ensure positive exposure for both organizations as we grow rugby throughout the Commonwealth."
