Rugby Virginia Academy

Rugby Virginia is proud to introduce the opening of the "Rugby Virginia Academy".

Rugby Virginia will sponsor monthly clinics to teach rugby skills to all interested players, boys and girls, aged 14 to 18.  Space is limited to the first 30 registrants.

Who:

All athletes aged 14 to 18, interested in improving their core skills, or athletes interested in learning a new sport.

Instructors:

  • Head Instructor: Hennie Van Zyl.  A former Provincial level player for South Africa who in 2006 provided coaching clinics to and developed drills for the Springboks that helped develop speed in attack.  Hennie also led numerous high school, university and senior level clinics both in the United States and South Africa.
  • Frederic Bardot will provide instructions for players new to the game.  He is the Head Coach at George Mason University, and in 2006 started rugby at the Fairfax Police Youth Club (FPYC). 

2008 dates and location:

  • Sunday, September 28, 2008: George Mason University Rugby pitch, Fairfax, VA, 12 to 2 PM.  Application Deadline: Friday September 26, 2008.
  • Sunday, October 19, 2008: South Run Park Fieldhouse, Springfield, VA, 1 to 3 PM
  • Sunday, November 16, 2008: TBD

Directions to clinics will be sent with confirmation email.

Cost:

$25 per participant on their first clinic.
$20 for each subsequent clinic. 

Each player receives a Rugby Virginia Academy T-shirt.
